Rigid Optical Fiber Rods

Rigid fused rods offer an optimal light transmission, as 100% of the section is made of glass. This performance lasts through numerous autoclave sterilisations cycle. Their rigidity allows an easy assembly within the handpiece mechanical system, and quicker maintenance. SOVIS experience in moulding allows to adjust to any precise shape needed to fit into the handpiece design. It is also possible to bond the fiber to metallic ends for an easier assembly. Main application: dental handpieces. This solution is now used by all the market leaders. Solutions for other applications can be developed.

Other diameter can be done upon request. Standards manufacturing tolerances  Tolerances at the outlet are +/-0.05 mm (+/-0.002") for the width and +/-0.1 mm (+/- 0.004") for the height.  Smallest bent radius is usually located close to the outlet. It is technically possible to go down to 1 mm (0.04"); however, it is not recommended to go below 2.5 mm (0.1") as the smaller is the bend radius, the lower will be the light transmission.  In the middle part of the rod, standard tolerances on the section are +/- 0.1 mm or 0.004".  Standard inlet shape is usually made from unshaped cylindrical rod and tolerance on section is 2.5 +/-0.05 mm or 0.098+/-0.002".
